Birthed By People, Raised By The State!
Of late the state has been making noises about the need to get more involved in the welfare of children to the point where they’re making suggestions to do this even before any problem occur.
This chilling prospect reminds me of the film AI (Artificial Intelligence) which depicts a world where criminals are arrested long before a crime is committed.
For now the most hoopla is around whether parents have the right to beat or smack their kids and how much punishment is actually abuse, etc. The debate is raging.
There’s a place for discipline in any situation where order is expected but the manner in which the discipline is implemented (notice I didn’t say ‘enforced’) is telling.
Environment
Usually discipline is influenced by environmental culture in that the punishment should always fit the crime and punishment or the tools used to administer it should also be appropriate.
If a child deserves a beating I see no problem with that but one should exercise restraint. Dropping a used car on a child is obviously inappropriate; neither is caning a six month old child.
If discipline can be established and maintained by gentle prodding only then this would be best but gentle prodding may not be appropriate if the environment is harsh and the only form of punishment the child will respond to is rough justice.
Protecting Your Own Flesh!
Here’s a question for you: if your child(ren) or the child(ren) of someone you know very well broke the law or were planning to do so in a big way would you help to shield and protect them from prosecution? Or, would you report them to the police and let the law do the rest?
This must be the dilemma facing parents and family members in that situation.
As good citizens we are obliged to conduct ourselves in a manner that is fitting for the rest of our community. However this concept breaks down when it comes to siding with society (or outsiders) against your own child, however wayward that child has been.
Thick Blood
Blood, indeed, is thicker than water, and this takes precedence in some cases over the fact our inclination towards nepotism could cost us far more in the long run than in doing the morally correct or legally commendable thing.
Who wants to have it on their conscience that they sent their children to prison or condemn them to a death sentence? Is it really only those who doesn’t value family ties? Or those who consdier themselves really good citizens? Maybe even both…
In essence it would be impossible for most people to turn their child in to the law unless their crimes were too shockingly heinous to ignore. One hopes never to be tested this way, of course, but dealing with matters internally is best. In the end it is up to our us and our conscience.
For that’s when the real emotional and psychological dilemma begins…
Earning Respect Stripes
At some point the British police, like law upholders everywhere, have to come to terms with one realisation: getting away with killing innocent people and being rewarded with nothing more than a mild slap on the wrist is the surest way to lose public confidence.
In the last couple of years the British police have killed an innocent Brazilian they reportedly mistook for a terrorist, an armed lawyer and a peaceful protestor.
All of these posed no threat – the armed lawyer did not point the gun at them – yet when the first two incidents were investigated, allegedly by pro-police organisations, no actions were taken against the guilty officers. It’s now feared the same thing will happen with the third case.
Respect is not something you get courtesy of your job title, rank, file or status in society. It is something you earn. If the police want to earn respect from people then they have to show respect by their actions. Shooting innocent people dead and then escaping justice is a big disrespect to both the public and the police force.
Where do you stand on this?
Unveiling A Scam Bam!
As soon as I saw the leaflet dropped through my letterbox I knew it was an advertising scam. I was very certain of it. “Third World Clothing Collection”, the headline screamed, advertising about a collection service it was running in my area tomorrow.
The reason for my sceptism is seeing an item on my apartment’s community notice board a few months back, warning me to be on the lookout for individuals or organisations perpetrating this exact scam.
I could see evidence this was a scam just looking at the amateurishly produced leaflet, outlining its plans to help others. They’re asking for donations of blankets, sheets, shoes, curtains, belts, bath and towels, underwear and other things. The words ‘Urgently Needed’ is centred and emboldened.
Curiously no details about the specific countries are listed…
I almost missed the company registered number in the bottom left hand corner, it is so small. Big mistake, I thought, because now I could check and prove that this company was a fake. Quickly I navigated to a site on the internet to verify the number. To my surprise it was a real company!
I stood there stunned for a while, somehow still believing I had uncovered a scam, yet with evidence, apparently, showing me this may not actually be so.
I’ll have to dig deeper into this. Stay tuned: of course there’s more to come…
Not Bending The Adoption Rules
It is big news that the Ukraine has refused singer Elton John’s request to adopt a 14 month old HIV positive boy. Elton, as is widely known, is homosexual and in fact has a partner who in every sense of the term is like a husband or wife.
The Ukraine government official has said Elton was refused because he didn’t fulfil the criteria for adopting a child. These include:-
1) Elton is not Ukranian.
2) He is not married.
3) He is too old.
4) At 62 there’s more than 45 years difference with child, apparently a Ukranian stipulation.
Same Sex Marriage
I have to admit I am struggling with the concept of people marrying other people of the same sex. To me it’s one of those jokes we used to run as a youth because we knew or at least thought it would never become reality. Boy, were we wrong! Not only has it become reality we have the laws of the land lining up behind this idea, making it illegal to discriminate against such unions while moral decay continue to spread.
Meanwhile, people yearn for the innocence of a previous era.
We cannot have it both ways: claiming the moral high ground while re-aligning the moral compass. Maybe the same liberal thinking should also apply to drugs, alcohol and all other taboo, banned or prohibited thing. I suspect this will not become a reality any time soon because if all things are equal then some are more equal than others.
Moral Rights
Once you grant the right to people to do something which, to some, might seem morally wrong then they can exercise their rights like any other normal citizen. Same sex couples living in an environment where this is legal and wanting to adopt children should not be prevented to do so based on their sexuality.
We do not know for sure whether this is really the reason behind this decision to deny Elton John the opportunity to adopt a Ukranian child, but it has provided food for thought on the issue.
It would be good to know what Elton’s thoughts on the matter are. We’ll have to wait and see…
One Flew Over The Swine Chest!
I saw somewhere where someone, a woman, made a joke about a current event. She said: “Wouldn’t it be funny if a Rastaman caught Swine Flu!”
My initial thoughts were that a true Rastaman (Muslim or orthodox Jew for that matter!) does not deal with pig food. But there lies the crack in the fissure: you don’t need to consume anything to catch Swine Flu.
The visual and aural juxtaposition of the words and term “Swine Flu” is powerful enough to plant the association in your head. From there your brain takes over, but by the time your senses catch up, the sensation has become an epidemic in your mind. Moments later your face breaks out a smile, followed by the inevitable laugh.
The power of words can never be underestimated!
May Day, May Day, Swine Flu Pandemic Ahead!
By now you will have heard that Swine Flu is threatening to become a pandemic. In fact some people have already called it but the World Health Organisation (WHO – you may well ask!) are still cautiously upgrading its status.
Starting from a strain in Mexico Swine Flu has been spreading into other areas Mexicans are returning to after visiting their country of origin.
It’s now reached the UK where the first case of someone who has not visited Mexico has been diagnosed with it. This video, around the slogan “Catch It, Bin it, Kill it” has now been produced to increase awareness of it.
Essentially that “Catch It, Bin it, Kill it” message reminds people to follow good hygiene practices to protect themselves and others against the spread of swine flu. But, the instruction is such common sense that it should already be a natural part of staying healthy.
But I keep forgetting that common sense isn’t always very common…
Entertainment Devils & Satanists
I have made a really ghastly discovery or re-discovery! This find has forced me to rethink my music and entertainment liking policy and to be even more discerning about what I watch or listen to in the name of entertainment.
I have rediscovered that many of the top singers, artists and entertainers that I previously like are actually or allegedly possessed, devil worshippers or Satanists. Some of them proudly declare their allegiances directly on record and others openly wear the occult symbols as part of their regular jewellery or on their music label art.
This list (in alphabetical order) include the likes of 50 Cent, Beyonce, DMX, Dr. Dre, Jay Z, Kanye West, P. Diddy, Quincy Jones, Rihanna, Snoop Dog and a slew of others.
A selected few of these artists are also cited to be members of Illuminati secret society which is apparently linked to a number of huge corporations and conglomerates.
When a friend sent me a video which exposed the practice I did my own research and found much more than what I bargained for.
It seems there is a battle going on not only for hearts and minds but particularly for souls and the fight is real. We all have the power to choose what we listen to, worship and love but giving Satan my attention is not an option for me. Listening to the music of a servant of Satan is even further down my list.
All I can do is to challenge you to look at your own entertainment fare, do your own research (a good search engine is a good place to start). You will be surprised about what you find.
Happy hunting!
Here are some of the material out there:-
Judging A Book By Its Cover
She has a face that would sink a million ships but an angelic voice that could raise the Titanic! Her name is Susan Boyle.
I have not watched the talent show “Britain’s Got Talent” on which she was discovered but such is her fame that I could not visit anywhere I normally gather my news without seeing copious information about her rise to fame.
Susan Boyle, a 47 year old who has never been kissed and who lives children less in a sleepy village in Scotland, is an anomaly. She makes plain Jane look glamorous but her rather dowdy appearance belie a fabulous singing voice.
In a world so slavishly obsessed with packaging where looks count above anything else, Susan stuck out far greater than the proverbial sore thumb on a talent show regularly watched by millions. So it was natural for viewers to dismiss her as she took her cue to perform on Britain’s Got Talent. They mentally prepared themselves to have a good laugh at this “puppet show” curio. They showed no respect, but they were in for a shock…
When Boyle opened her mouth the sounds that came out did not match the image they were seeing or expecting. Her voice was simply confounded her critics and surpassed all expectations.
Hairs stood up on end with most people trying to bridge the gap between what they were seeing and what they were hearing. Who could blame them for they’ve been conditioned to expect little from a woman who could be mistaken for someone’s unglamorous granny! The crowd went wild and Boyle became an instant star.
Now, with her face having graced the front covers of newspapers, magazines and television screens all over the world, Boyle is assured of getting a global number one album, whenever that drops.
There is an obvious lesson in Boyle’s story about judging a book by its cover. It now remains to be seen whether Boyle’s achievement will dent prejudices about age and appearance.
Charging For Free!
I can see a day coming when everything we currently take for granted as free will cost us a bob or two. Take air, for instance.
At the moment this commodity is all around us, clean and available. But imagine having to pay for it because the environment has changed so much that it has to be purified before it can be used by humans. That would attract a fee, of course.
Maybe around 15 years ago it was inconceivable that people would willingly pay for water, other than at a restaurant. But, but water bottled water industry is now so huge it warrants a story all to itself.
Once upon a time most things on the internet were free! Free web accounts, email addresses, bandwidth, etc. the list went on. Now, you pretty much have to pay to get the premium service you once took for granted online.
Splitting The ATM
Banks and building societies would have been out of their minds to even think of charging customers for moving their own money around in their institutions, but this has been the case for over 20 years now!
From around the late 1980s they have been tacking on surcharges for ATM users with cards from rival banks. When they saw that working well they conceived other fees for things like telephone transactions, cashing a cheque, even just for speaking with a cashier or depositing cash in person outside certain prescribed hours!
Whichever way you look at it free isn’t what it used to be. Stung by so-called credit crunch and grim economic downturn, many businesses are finding ingenious ways to claw some of that money back.
Better make the most of things right now, while they are still relatively affordable!
