Hating Prejudice & Discrimination
Some people get their kicks from hating other people for the strangest reasons. Depending on their particular prejudices this could be on the grounds of colour, race, sex, sexuality, gender, height, weight, location, dietary needs, physical handicap, social background, financial status, religion or anything else.
In an ideal world such hatred simply would not exist.
The current hatred which some American citizens seem to have against president elect Barack Obama is an irrational one.
They see a BlackMan or, in this case, a man of obviously mixed race with unmistakenly negroid features, and they immediately fear what he might do. Their apparent fear of the unknown or change amplify their fear to paranoia level.
Black Fear
The former political rap group Public Enemy once rapped about “Fear of a Black Planet”. I think this is what some people see and fear with Obama. They just cannot get past his Blackness. How could we allow a BlackMan to become president of the USA, they ask?
Their fear manifests itself in not knowing what he will do to change how they go about their daily lives. They are afraid of change that will empower more people who look like him and less like themselves. To them this fear is real and no one can convince them otherwise.
Maybe the best thing is to leave them to drown in their own fear pool. Or maybe we should leave a backdoor of hope open for them, even if we feel they don’t deserve it. Either way hating someone just because they look different to you is as stupid a thing as you can imagine.
My overall view is that even stupid people have a right to live, even if you discriminate against their stupidity, prejudice and ignorance.
