Each One, Teach One!
It is a source of disappointment that so many established people, let’s calls them stars; don’t ever consider giving something back to the communities from which they came. There is this mentality of take, take and more take!
For some people the idea of giving up a portion of one’s time to help others who are not so fortunate or who could benefit from the exposure is a sign of weakness. But to me it is a necessary part of life.
I am indebted to many people who gave up some of their spare time when I was a youth to teach me stuff like table tennis, cricket and soccer. Add film scriptwriting to that list too. It didn’t strike me as being a weakness to help others though!
Far from being a weakness I am actually finding it a source of continuous strength. Because it seems the more I give of myself is the more I get back in some other way and nothing beats the feeling of pride when someone you have helped come back to you with a success story that warms your heart.
Community work, mentoring or even just helping out is really only for strong. Are you up for the task?
