Begging Bread!
Maybe it’s a sign of the times, but I’m seeing an increasing number of people turning to begging as a way to “earn” a living.
I emphasized the word earn here because in the strictest sense one cannot “earn” something which you have not provided any labour or sweat towards achieving. Simply stretching out your hand to the nearest passerby you see on the street does not take much effort.
These days, however, beggars are not content with being confined to street pavements. They are now boarding trains and buses and walking around begging from passengers on board!
The more creative I have seen actually perform an act, like play an instrument or sing in whatever native tongue they have and they usually fare better than those who beg without providing a “service.”
I sure hope the so-called Credit Crunch could ease, if only to rid the place of some of these beggars!
